I chose to create my Advanced Apparel garment based on the topic, “Nature is Healing” that symbolizes the reproductive properties the earth carries and how nature can heal us. My goal was to embody the natural healing of the ocean, therefore my design fostered from the movement of ocean waves. I chose to title my garment “Serenity Surge” to reflect the ocean’s ability to heal both the body and soul.
Engineering Collaboration: In collaboration with the engineering team, we integrated a motor into the dress and threaded wiring throughout the garment, connecting it to a battery pack strapped to my leg. The ruffles were embedded with tubing linked to the motor, enabling the gown to move. As a result, the ruffles rotated in a circular motion, mimicking the fluidity of ocean waves.
Sustainable Style Award: At the University Fashion Show, I was awarded the “Sustainable Style” Award. The Sustainable Style Award recognizes fashion designs that establish a strong connection to social and/or environmental sustainability.
